The Ryder Homestead property at Wattle Flat is very fortunate in backing on to the Wattle Flat Heritage Lands. The Heritage Lands which occupy approximately 650 acres have been set aside by government declaration for public recreation and environmental protection. The lands are managed by a trust which is made up of local community members who obtain government funding for maintenance and the development of public facilities. These facilities include walking trails, public toilets, barbecue areas and camping grounds.
The marked walking trail traverses the northern section of the reserve and is estimated to take approximately three hours for a return walk. The reserve is mostly tree covered and is well know for its population of Argyle Apple trees and many other indigenous tree species.

Brochures describing the Heritage Lands are available at the Homestead and also in the Wattle Flat General Store.
