| Travel to Wattle Flat and
Sofala is easily accommodated by road from Sydney and other locations within New South
Wales. Regular train and airline services also operate from Sydney to Bathurst
which is approximately 30 minutes drive from the Homestead. To find Ryder Homestead, travel along the Great Western Highway to Bathurst. On the eastern outskirts of Bathurst you will come to a suburb called Kelso where there is a turn off to the North (right if travelling from Sydney, left if travelling from out West). Turn at the traffic lights at Kelso into Gilmore Road. There are only three sets of lights at Kelso so you can't miss it. This turn off is also sign posted as "to Sofala" and eventually becomes the Sofala Road. Coming from Sydney this is the third set of lights that you will come to after reaching the outskirts of Bathurst. Travel along this road for 37 Kilometres (approximately 25 minutes) and you will arrive at the village of Wattle Flat. To find Ryder Homestead (including the Blue Gum Cabin), turn into Thompson Street which is the first turn on the left past the Wattle Flat General store. You will see a street sign on the corner indicating "Ryder Homestead, 1.3Km". After turning into Thompson Street, simply follow the signs and keep veering to the right and you can't miss the Homestead. Google Maps link for the Homestead is here. If you are travelling through to the cottage at Sofala, simply keep on driving through the village Wattle Flat and after 7km you will reach the village of Sofala. Turn right into the main street (Denison St.) and drive right through to the end (about 300 metres). Turn right at the end and then immediately left into the Upper Turon Road. The address of the cottage is 103 Upper Turon Road Sofala and is only 1Km from the turn off. Google Maps link for the Sofala Cottage is here. |
