Astronomy Tours at Ryder Homestead |
| One of the great things about living in a country location is DARK SKIES and I am sure that all of those amateur astronomers amongst you will certainly appreciate this. Your host, Rodney, is a keen amateur astronomer and is happy to share his passion with guests staying at Ryder Homestead. We even run sky tours for those of you who are keen to get involved with amateur astronomy and do not quite know where to start. |

We have a
Celestron 9.25 inch telescope installed on a Losmandy GM-8 equatorial mount which is
housed in our own observatory. Click on the photo on the left for a larger picture of the
observatory. Astronomy tours normally last around an hour to an hour and a half and are free for guests staying with Ryder Homestead. We also accept bookings for astronomy tours from visitors who are not staying at the Homestead and charge a small fee for the tour. Please ring ahead to the Homestead to enquire about timing and availability. |
| If your interest is amateur astronomy and you would like details of the construction of our observatory, please click here. Wattle Flat, New South Wales, is located at Longitude 149o 42' East, Latitude 33o 09' South at an elevation of 920 metres. We are only 20 minutes drive from the Wiruna dark sky observing site operated by the Astronomical Society of NSW. | |
